Understanding Imaging Modalities for Acupuncturists

Understand how MRI, CT, and X-ray findings relate to acupuncture treatment decisions.

This course introduces the most common imaging modalities used in healthcare—including X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and bone densitometry—and explains how imaging reports can support clinical decision-making and interdisciplinary communication.

This course provides 0.1 CEU (1 hour) of SOFEDUC-accredited continuing education.
*This course, created on February 2nd, 2026 is a digital product with immediate access. All sales are final due to immediate access to digital course content.*

Course Objective

This course provides acupuncturists with a practical understanding of modern medical imaging and its relevance to clinical practice
Participants will learn how different imaging modalities visualize the body and how imaging findings can support clinical reasoning in acupuncture treatment.

The course also explains how to :
  • Interpret key information in radiology reports
  • Relate imaging findings to patient symptoms
  • Communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals.

The goal is not to train practitioners to read scans themselves, but to help them confidently integrate imaging information into patient-centered acupuncture care.

What you'll gain from this
course

  • Improve communication with physicians and other healthcare professionals
  • Apply imaging knowledge to safer acupuncture treatment planning
  • Understand the strengths and limitations of each imaging modality
  • Learn how to quickly interpret radiology reports
  • Recognize when imaging findings matter clinically
IS THIS COURSE FOR YOU?

Who Should Apply?

This course is ideal for:
Licensed acupuncturists who want to better understand MRI, CT, and X-ray reports
Acupuncture students preparing to work in integrative clinical settings
Integrative healthcare practitioners who collaborate with acupuncturists
Practitioners who want to communicate more confidently with physicians and other healthcare professionals

Patients frequently arrive with MRI, CT, or X-ray reports, and understanding what these findings mean can help practitioners refine treatment strategies and communicate more effectively with other members of the healthcare team.

Why Medical Imaging Matters for Acupuncturists

In modern healthcare, medical imaging is often a central part of the diagnostic process. Patients frequently arrive at acupuncture clinics with imaging reports, specialist referrals, or questions about MRI or X-ray findings. However, many acupuncturists receive little formal training in how imaging modalities work or how imaging findings relate to acupuncture treatment planning. This gap can create uncertainty when discussing imaging results with patients or coordinating care with physicians and other healthcare professionals.

This course was developed to help bridge that gap.
By understanding what medical imaging shows, what it does not show, and how findings relate to clinical presentation, acupuncturists can participate more confidently in interdisciplinary care and support clearer communication with patients and healthcare teams.
